Talk to Strangers

I joined a Facebook group called middle school teachers . This group was an open-to-join group where teachers posted things they found useful in the classroom and also questions they had that needed answering. I saw several different websites that could be useful for me as a middle school teacher and also templates for all different kinds of lessons in school.  I have learned about an assignment that a teacher used called slice of life where students draw and illustrate things they consider something that makes them up as a person and makes them who they are. I also learned that this is a safe space to ask questions, one anonymous account asked if hoods are really that disrespectful and if they are really just for comfort. Others in the comments felt it was just a good way to hide headphones and it is a respectful thing. So I found several questions from teachers to be answered by other teachers. One thing I found interesting was the amount of people posting side hustles and ...

Creators to check out

The 3 content creators that I found are Nat Geo Kids,    Dude Perfect, and Good Good Golf.   Nat Geo Kids is my educational content creator, Nat Geo is a large corporation that stands for National Geographic. They post a lot of information about the world around us and the animals and creatures out there. I recommended this to other teachers because they post information that is very interesting and can be used in most science classes. I have seen plenty of their regular account videos and their kid's videos are just easier to follow. Another content creator is Dude Perfect, they are just a fun group of guys who do different kinds of trick shots and challenges. I have been watching their videos for upwards of 10 years now and I have always been impressed with their content. The last content creator that I looked at was Good Good Golf, This is another group of friends that film themselves playing golf and doing different challenges that are very entertaining. I have...

The product I chose to review is The Yeti Backpack Cooler , I chose this product because it is something that I use almost every day in the summer and is super practical for carrying all the stuff you need while also keeping them cold for a long time.  The alternative to this could be carrying a cooler by the sides with both hands or getting one with a handle. These, in my opinion, don't compare to the backpack cooler because using this you still have access to both of your hands while still carrying this cooler.

I chose to do my blog post on this year's March Madness winner, The UCONN Huskies . UCONN was the team to beat all year and coming into the playoffs as the consensus number-one team it was hard to argue they were going to be a handful to deal with. The University of Connecticut was the March Madness champion last year making them the first team to win back-to-back championships since 2006-2007 when Florida did the same thing.  UCONN made several games during this tournament a one-sided game while not looking back. They won their first 3 games of the tournament by a combined 85 points meaning they almost beat each of the first 3 teams they played by 30 points a piece. They even won their first game 91-52 beating Stetson by 39 points.

I chose an article called Get Tech Out Of The Classroom Before It's Too Late.   The article talks about the mother of an 8th-grade boy named Jamie Lewis. She says that her son's grades have been slipping in the past few months and she blames it on the use of YouTube on her son's school-issued laptop. She knows this because her son's teachers have said that he elects to skip out on test corrections and other things that could help his grade to watch YouTube. Jamie and other parents of students in this class knew they needed to try and make a change. Instead of just trying to remove the student's laptops they make a presentation of why YouTube should be blocked on these students' laptops.  Some people are pulling their students from schools where they issue a laptop to all students and bringing these kids to a Screen-Free school.

Accessibility

The video about Mike Phillips made me feel sympathy for him, as he struggled to adapt from being able to communicate and eat to being unable to do either, and his mother constantly taking care of him. His use of his thumb to click on a computer keyboard and facial expressions to convey meaning intrigued me. Overall, I believe Mike Phillips was an admirable person who chose not to let his condition negatively impact his life. A type of assistive tech I have seen is teachers frequently use closed captioning for class videos, enabling everyone to hear and read the content. This assistive technology aids in concentrating and comprehending the content, making it a valuable tool for learning. A type of accessibility I have used and seen on my phone is face ID. It's good to use face ID because it can be very helpful for people who may struggle to remember passwords or aren't able to type them in they can just scan their face to save time.  One that I found in the UDL Toolkit  w...
